Thoughts on evangelicalism
How do evangelicals become “true believers”? I’m sure many recovering evangelicals have experienced the apparent contradiction of these three points:
- Their parents weren’t particularly aggressive about pushing their personal beliefs.
- Their pastors almost entirely refrained from right-wing screeds.
- At some point, they were obnoxious “religious right” types to some degree.
Identity Crisis
From a chat with The Girl, whom I am not dating. (Seriously, you all thought that I would refer to my girlfriend as “The Girl”?)
Adam: I’m hard to track down on the Internet, that’s for sure.
Adam: I make every effort to conceal my activities.
The Girl: i just make an effort to conceal my REAL indentity
The Girl: which i have done rather skillfully i think
Adam: Indeed.
Adam: But WHO IS the real Adam Kotsko?!
Adam: Why won’t he LET ANYONE IN?!
The Girl: KEYSER SOZE!
The Other Side
There’s a fair chance that this may be the last week we will be required to think about Sarah Palin. Think how blissful our Palin-free existence will be!
I suppose it’s possible that Tina Fey will try to milk Palin for a few more weeks, but no one actually watches SNL unless clips are linked on the internet, and I’m sure all the liberal bloggers who would link to such things will be so thoroughly sick of Palin that no links will be forthcoming.
