Home for the heteronomous

A worry

The Democrats at the convention have been much better than I expected, especially John Kerry.

Since I’m a negative person, though, I’m going to blog about one negative impression: the Democrats don’t seem to have gotten the memo saying that our best intelligence indicates that Iran is not currently pursuing a nuclear weapon. If you’re trying to draw a contrast between a candidate with the right instincts and a president and candidate who spread and possibly even believed lies, it would be helpful not to spread and possibly even believe lies yourself. It’s admittedly unlikely to be a problem in the context of the campaign, since journalists’ job description only extends as far as comparing the statements of the two political parties to each other rather than to actual facts — and in this postmodern world, can you blame them for taking that approach?
