Friday Afternoon Confessional: Overdressing

I confess that I’ve arguably been overdressing for class, just because it’s fun to have a plausible setting for dressing well.

I confess that I got the @MayorEmanuel book, and it’s hitting me how much of a lifeline that Twitter feed was for me during my second year at Kalamazoo. It combined the toxic cynicism that informs so much of my favorite entertainment — such as Archer, which has apparently resumed its second season this week? — and an intimate view of Chicago that in some way made me feel like I was “there.”

I confess that I may need to go ahead and get cable now that the new season is starting, as I’m tired of watching things on the computer. I confess that the Roku has turned out to be far from a comprehensive cable replacement — in fact, the Netflix feature only works half the time, at best. Hulu is more reliable, but Hulu also plays the same three commercials over and over, every single show. It can play files from a USB drive, but only in a very narrow range of formats, not including the formats commonly used in torrents — and though I’ve tinkered a lot with the RSS feature in Bit Torrent, it just isn’t reliable. In short: there’s no good substitute for the old-fashioned DVR.

I confess that if I’m going to be paying for cable, I might as well spring for HBO, right? Why nickle and dime myself?

  1. I confess I’m sleepy today from trying to stay up to watch the Tigers game, which was played in Oakland and didn’t start until after 10 o’clock. What’s worse, they lost so it felt kind of pointless. Even worse, in my effort to stay awake I failed, so I wouldn’t even have known if they had won. Perhaps the worst part of all was nodding off with my contacts in, which apparently glues them to my eyeballs and makes for very uncomfortable removal.

  3. I confess that this story will make some sense to those who remember my most recent contribution to Tuesday Hatred.
